Introducing Rational Rhetoric

I wish we could have greeted each other like neighbours meeting on a lawn. Shaking hands as we stand outside in the sun. While you could say we are comparatively quickly connected between devices these days, we could also be as far as 20,000 km apart. And thus we meet here.

Communication channels have changed and transformed a lot from the time I was born until I graduated for my Masters in Media Studies. We have gone from adventurous explorers to .... gone. We learned that media can be used as a tool to create peace, learn and connect. A little too late, we also realised that media is a dangerous new landscape that can be weaponised in the wrong hands. These sides to modern technology is what interested me enough to continue my studies at the University of Leiden, in a new direction; law.

My name is Daniella. I live and work in Leiden. In recent years, I have immersed myself in the theory of communication as a form of influence medium and applied my knowledge as a marketing designer to support various goals. Through my role as a communications consultant, I have learned that there is a great need for legal advice for new media applications by leading corporations. To continue my studies I have chosen to study international and general Dutch law at the University of Leiden. One of the leading universities for international law thanks to their departement Grotius Centre for international legal studies.

For now, I am still orienting myself in the field of law and international law. I welcome any advice, text recommendations and other comments from current practitioners or students. Mainly, my focus during my studies will be on mastering general theory and trying to tie it to my knowledge for media theory. I am looking forward to becoming a pioneer within the combination of these two wonderful knowledge fields.
